Inside Villa Vassøy

Concrete, timber, light—and room to exhale.

An open-plan living space brings kitchen, dining and lounge together, while large windows keep the garden and changing island light close. The mood is quietly Scandinavian: honest materials, clean lines and comfortable places to settle in.

Life on Vassøy

Not removed from Stavanger. Just wonderfully apart.

Vassøy is an inhabited island in Stavanger’s city archipelago: small enough to feel personal, alive enough to feel local. Boats connect the island with the city, while the shoreline, woods and quiet lanes set a completely different pace.

  1. 01

    Follow the shoreline

The signed Vassøyturen is an approximately 6 km island circuit through rocky coves, heather, woodland and open sea views.

  2. 02

    Swim at Peisaren

The island’s public bathing bay has a beach, picnic places and smooth coastal rock—a simple outing on foot from the villa.

  3. 03

    Catch dinner

Try shore fishing, borrow fishing gear, or arrange kayak hire with Trond before you arrive. Then light the BBQ back at the house.

  4. 04

    Shop like a local

Joker Vassøy carries everyday groceries and fresh bread. Check the shop’s live page for current island opening hours.

Getting here

Across the water, not away from it.

From Fiskepiren in central Stavanger, route 800 passenger boats and route 898 car ferry connect Vassøy with the mainland. Direct crossings take roughly 10–18 minutes depending on the service, with a short onward walk or drive to the villa.

Travelling on foot

Take route 800 from Fiskepiren. The terminal is by Stavanger’s waterfront, within easy reach of the compact city centre.

Bringing a car

Route 898 is the Vassøy car ferry. Villa Vassøy also has free on-site parking and an EV charger.

Services, journey times and fares can change. Use Kolumbus for current departures rather than relying on a fixed timetable.

Things to do

The kind of days that need little planning.

  1. 01

    Stay close

Swim, fish, relax in the garden, read in the hammock or take a drink up to the roof terrace. Kayak hire can be arranged with the host.

  2. 02

    Walk Vassøy

Take the signed island route past bathing coves, smooth rock, heather and traces of older island life. Allow around two hours for the full circuit.

  3. 03

    Cross into town

Step off at Fiskepiren for Stavanger’s harbour, Old Stavanger, waterfront museums and restaurants—all easy to explore on foot.

  4. 04

    Go further

Plan a Lysefjord cruise or a Preikestolen day, then return across the water to the quiet of the island.

Guest impressions

Guests remember the feeling.

Across both listings, the same themes return: warm hosting, exceptional cleanliness, easy ferry journeys, calm by the water and a home that feels even better than the photographs.

Close to Stavanger, yet completely immersed in a calmer island world.
